Bracknell roadworks: Great Hollands Road shut to 28 Aug

Bracknell was laid out as a new town, so its roads are a deliberate network: dual carriageways on the outside, roundabouts instead of junctions, and estates hung off distributor roads. That design is fast when it works and awkward when it does not, because closing one link usually means a diversion of two or three miles rather than a parallel street.

This page has the borough’s dated closures from the council’s own resurfacing programme, the roads that carry the traffic when something shuts, and where to park at each end.

What is closed now

The council’s 2026 to 2027 resurfacing programme is the biggest single source of planned closures in the borough, and the summer inlay round is running right now. Unless stated, work happens between 9:30am and 4:30pm.

Two of these matter more than the rest.

Great Hollands Road, 17 to 28 August, is the only daytime full closure in the programme. It runs in five overlapping stretches between Beedon Drive and Hanworth roundabout, which between them cover the length of the road, and it is the spine of the Great Hollands estate. Plan around it rather than driving up to it.

The Western Road, Cain Road roundabout and Easthampstead Road works overlap in late September. All three sit on the north west side of the town centre, all three are overnight, and they run more or less continuously from 16 to 29 September.

The roads that carry the traffic

Bracknell has no motorway of its own. Everything funnels onto four routes, and knowing which one a closure pushes you onto is most of the battle.

• A329(M) is the town’s motorway link, running north west from the Coppid Beech end of the borough to Reading and the M4 at junction 10. Anything on the A329 Berkshire Way between Doncastle roundabout and the boundary is the feeder to it, which is why that road is resurfaced overnight rather than in the day.
• A322 runs north to south through the west of the town as Downshire Way and Bagshot Road, and carries on to the M3 at junction 3 near Bagshot. It is the route for Guildford, Woking and the south coast.
• A329 London Road is the old east to west road, through the town centre towards Ascot one way and Wokingham the other.
• A3095 Mill Lane and Crowthorne Road run south from Twin Bridges towards Crowthorne, Sandhurst and Camberley, past the Look Out and Coral Reef.
• B3430 Nine Mile Ride cuts west from Crowthorne towards Wokingham and Finchampstead, and is the access road for Swinley Forest and the Look Out.

The named roundabouts worth knowing, because closure notices assume you do: Twin Bridges, Coppid Beech, Hanworth, Great Hollands, Doncastle, Vigar, Cain Road and Brookers Corner at Crowthorne.

Parking in the town centre

Braccan Walk, at 356 spaces, is the borough’s benchmark tariff. It is open 24 hours, though the lifts close between 9pm and 8am.

Three things the signs do not shout about. Bank holidays are charged at normal rates. There are no free concessions for Blue Badge holders in any council charging car park. And motorcycle parking is free, on the ground floor, 14 bays taking two bikes each.

The other town centre options are The Avenue multi-storey, Albert Road (194 spaces), Behind the Banks (27 spaces) and Wick Hill. Season tickets are available, and residents can apply for one on proof of address.

Parking at the edges

Coral Reef visitors get five hours free in the Look Out car park by giving their registration at reception rather than paying and displaying. Pay and display first and there is no refund.

Buses

Four operators run in Bracknell Forest: Thames Valley Buses, Reading Buses, White Bus and Stagecoach. If you are combining a bus with a train, PlusBus covers Bracknell and adds unlimited local bus travel at either end of a rail ticket, which is usually cheaper than buying the two separately.

Neither one directly. The M4 at junction 10 is reached by the A329(M) via Berkshire Way, and the M3 at junction 3 by the A322 south through Bagshot. Bracknell has no motorway junction inside the borough.

How much is parking in Bracknell town centre?

At Braccan Walk, £2.10 for an hour, £5.70 for four hours and £11.80 for over eight, with a £2.30 overnight charge from 6pm to 6am. Bank holidays are charged at the normal rate and there are no Blue Badge concessions in the council’s charging car parks.

Where can I park free in Bracknell Forest?

At the countryside sites rather than the town. Buckler’s Forest in Crowthorne (32 spaces) and Ambarrow Court in Sandhurst (15 spaces) are both free. Swinley Forest and the Look Out both charge.
