A motorcyclist in his twenties died in a collision on Harvest Ride in Warfield on Thursday afternoon. Thames Valley Police is asking anyone who saw the crash, or who was driving towards Tesco beforehand, to come forward.
The force published its appeal at 11.05am on Friday 9 October. (Thames Valley Police, appeal for witnesses following fatal road traffic collision, Bracknell)
What the police say happened
The statement gives these facts:
- the collision happened at around 4.25pm on Thursday 8 October
- it was at the junction of Harvest Ride and Melody Lane, Warfield
- it involved a silver Range Rover and a blue Yamaha motorcycle
- the rider of the motorcycle, a man in his twenties, died at the scene
- his next of kin have been told and are being supported by specially trained officers
- no arrests have been made
The force has not named the man. Bracknell Online does not name people involved in collisions unless the police or the family do so.
The investigating officer’s appeal
The investigation is being led by Police Sergeant Matthew Cadmore of the Roads Policing Unit. His words, as published by the force:
“Firstly, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the motorcyclist who has very sadly died following this collision, and we continue to support them at this extremely difficult time.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing to anybody who witnessed the incident, or the events leading up to it, to please come forward.
“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on Harvest Ride towards Tesco prior to the collision and may have seen what happened or has dash-cam footage.
“I would also ask anyone who were in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage to please check their recordings and contact us, as this information could be vital to our investigation.”
How to get in touch
Anyone with information can:
- call Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference 43260527071
- report it on the force’s website, using the same reference
- call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or use its website
Dashcam footage is the thing the officer asked for twice. If your car records, check the clip for Thursday afternoon before it is overwritten. Many dashcams keep only a few days of footage on a loop.
What it means for you
The road. Harvest Ride is the main road through the Warfield housing area, running past the Tesco store towards Newell Green. Bracknell Forest Council’s road closures page listed no closure on Harvest Ride when we checked on Sunday 11 October. We could not confirm from a first-party source when the road reopened after the collision. Our roadworks and travel page carries the closures that are in force this week.
If you were there. Witnesses do not need to have seen the collision itself. The police specifically want people who were on Harvest Ride in the minutes before, in either direction, because their account or their footage may show how the two vehicles were positioned.
If you are affected. Deaths on the road leave a wide circle of people shaken, including those who stopped to help. Thames Valley Police’s Roads Policing Unit assigns family liaison officers to the bereaved. For anyone else affected, the charity Brake runs a support service for people affected by road crashes on 0808 8000 401.
We will update this story if the force publishes anything further. A charging decision, if one comes, would be reported in the force’s own words only.
