Crowthorne's accessible play area at the Morgan Rec is open, with a safari jeep, a campervan and a wildlife mural. Built for younger children by the parish.

Children in Crowthorne have a new place to play. The rebuilt, accessible play area at the Morgan Recreation Ground has been officially opened.

Crowthorne Parish Council says the new design mixes nature and adventure themes. It includes:

  • a mural of local plants and animals
  • a safari jeep to climb in
  • a campervan

Councillor Peter Wood, the parish council’s chair, declared it open with what the parish called “friends from Crowthorne C of E”. “Judging by all the big smiles I see in the rain today, I can tell that everyone likes it!” he said.

Built for younger children of all abilities

The parish council describes it as a new accessible facility for younger children. It replaces the fenced play area on the rec, which closed for the autumn term while the work was done. The parish’s Morgan Rec news page said the toilets there would be shut for the same period.

The parish has also published the designer’s drawing of the scheme. It is an artist’s impression, not a photograph of what was built. It labels:

  • wheelchair accessible play equipment
  • a tree house tower with a slide
  • a fire pole from the campervan’s roof tent
  • a low transfer platform and a pull out ramp
  • a roundabout, swings and a number trail

The second new thing on the rec this year

The play area follows the rec’s free outdoor gym, which the parish opened in February. It has seven adjustable pieces of equipment. The rec also has an exercise track, where three laps make a kilometre.

What it means for you

  • It is free and open now. The play area is the fenced toddler area next to the car park, which is off Lower Broadmoor Road, RG45 7LD. The parish asks people to walk there if they can.
  • The toilets are behind it. The parish says they open at 9am Monday to Saturday and 10am on Sundays, and are shut on bank holidays.
  • Older children have the games area at the far end, with a basketball and football pitch and a ninja trail.
  • Questions or problems go to Crowthorne Parish Council on 01344 771251.
