The town centre Post Office inside TG Jones at Princess Square will close, with no date yet. It is where the Post Office sent Crown Wood customers in August.

Bracknell’s town centre Post Office is to close. The branch is inside the TG Jones shop at 10 Princess Square. The Post Office told customers in a letter published on Tuesday 20 October that it is “due to close shortly before the store closes”.

No date has been set. The Post Office says it is working with TG Jones to confirm one, and that it is “likely to be in the next few months”. It will put posters up in the branch once it knows. The letter is on its consultation hub page for the branch, branch number 010939.

The closure follows the restructuring plan of TG Jones, the Post Office’s retail partner in the shop. The Post Office says it is “in the early stages of reviewing applications to run the Post Office branch” and will give an update “as soon as possible”.

The second Bracknell closure since August

Crown Wood Post Office, inside the Morrisons Daily store at Crown Wood, closed on Sunday 9 August 2026 when the shop shut. That is according to the Post Office’s letter about Crown Wood.

That letter named Princess Square as one of two places to go instead. It said the town centre branch offered “a comprehensive range of Travel Money, Passport Check & Send, Vehicle Tax and On Demand Travel Insurance”. Neither of the alternatives named this time offers Passport Check and Send.

Where to go instead

The Post Office’s letter for Princess Square names two alternatives:

Branch Distance Opening hours Not available there
Windlesham Road Post Office, 6 Priestwood Square, RG42 1UD about 1 mile Mon to Sun 7am to 10pm Passport Check and Send
Great Hollands Post Office, 17 Great Hollands Square, RG12 8UX about 1.8 miles Mon to Sat 6am to 8pm, Sun 7am to 8pm Passport Check and Send

The Post Office says both have a wide door and level access, parking nearby and local buses. Both are open longer than Princess Square, which the Crown Wood letter listed as open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5.30pm and closed on Sundays.

What it means for you

  • Nothing changes yet. The Princess Square counter keeps trading until the Post Office announces a date. Posters in the branch will give it.
  • Passports: neither named alternative offers Passport Check and Send. If you are planning a renewal, it is worth doing it at Princess Square while the counter is open, or checking the Post Office branch finder for the nearest branch that does.
  • Longer hours: both alternatives open on Sundays and into the evening.
  • Getting there: Priestwood Square and Great Hollands both have parking nearby, the Post Office says. Our parking in Bracknell page covers the town centre car parks.

How to have your say

This is filed as an unplanned closure. Under the Post Office’s own rules, whether to replace the service “will be a commercial decision” and “will not be subject to public consultation”, the letter says. You can still send questions and comments to its National Consultation Team:

  • email comments@postoffice.co.uk
  • write to FREEPOST Your Comments
  • call 03452 66 01 15

Comments are not kept confidential unless you mark them “In Confidence”. The Post Office says it will write to local representatives again once it has news about a replacement. We will update this story when it does.
